PIYAWAN CHAVALITLEKHA "PENNY" KOVACH
Piyawan "Penny" Chavalitlekha Kovach was born in Bangkok, Thailand.
Penny attended high school in North Hollywood, California where her passion for fine arts was kindled. She attended Northwestern State University in Nachitoches, Louisiana graduating with a major in art. Penny returned home to Thailand, later moving to the Persian Gulf state of Bahrain working in the travel industry. Over these years, painting became her primary interest.
In Bahrain, her paintings of local scenes gained public recognition and she had several successful shows, one sponsored by the Ministry of Culture. The National Museum purchased several of her paintings in this period for their permanent collection.
She moved to Morocco where her paintings were featured in solo shows at 'Dar America' (The American Cultural Center) in both Rabat and Casablanca. She also exhibited at the American Cultural Center in Damascus, Syria.
Later Penny moved to Washington, DC, Amman, Jordan and Tokyo, Japan where she continued to paint and sell her work privately.
In Washington over the past few years she has studied with Trinka Margua Simon, Walter Bartman and Helen Corning taking her painting in new directions and to new heights. Penny now paints in water color, pastel, oil and acrylic mediums. She paints still-lifes, landscapes, figures or abstracts depending on her mood.
In recent years, Penny has also been designing and making jewelry creations.
Dr. Usa Bunnag has invited Penny to be the in-house artist for Thai Crossing.
A portion of income from the sale of Penny's paintings and jewelry will be donated to Smiles on Wings, a non-profit organization that provides medical and humanitarian aid to poor rural areas in Thailand.
